Many social media platforms are created and launched every day, but all of them don’t have the chance to get popular and go viral. Instagram did it so well and drew many users from all over the world, but now, so has TikTok.

Many people are comparing these two platforms, Instagram and TikTok and which is better to choose and spend more time on. Today, we’ll be showing you the difference between the two, and why one might be better for you than the other.

TikTok

Tik Tok, is a video-sharing app, and is now the world’s most downloaded iPhone app. It features short 15 second videos, which are soundtracked by music clips that users choose. The content users’ feature are comedic, on-trend, and interactive.

Originally, TikTok launched overseas in China as Douyin in September 2016, then it came to the United States in 2017. In 2018, TikTok merged with Musical.ly, a similar short video platform, which essentially brought TikTok to the next level. The app is hugely prominent in 150 markets and 75 languages worldwide.

TikTok has taken the internet by storm, surpassing Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat in the number of user downloads. According to Business Insider, as of November 2019, TikTok has hit 1.5 billion total downloads across the App Store and Google Play.

Instagram

Instagram is the leading photo and video sharing app that launched back in 2010 on the iPhone and 2012 on Androids. The Instagram app features photo filters, stylized profile feeds, direct messaging, Instagram Stories, and IGTV which combines photo and video services to an all-inclusive media sharing app.

Instagram, which was once known as the leading social media app, has officially lost ground to TikTok. In 2018, TikTok had 100 million downloads in the first half of 2018, Instagram had nearly half with only 59 million downloads during that time.
